Productivity Lifehacks

Many people (mostly successful, haha) use routines to stay in the flow of their day. Not going to lie, I am trying to mimic and develop my own routines and habits (more on that somedayā€¦).

However, as you all know, stuff happens, and a day can start not as planned. When that happens, it can feel like the whole day is derailed.

The question is how to fix it and not label the day as ruined or wasted.

A great lifehack from Gretchen Rubin comes in handy in those situations:

Instead of feeling like youā€™ve lost the day after a bad morning, reframe each day as four quarters:

ā€¢ Morning

ā€¢ Midday

ā€¢ Afternoon

ā€¢ Evening

If you blow one quarter, just get back on track for the next one.

Fail small, not big.

This is genius. Iā€™ve been reflecting on this idea for weeks now. One thing Iā€™ve noticedā€”it gives me peace of mind.

If one of the quarters goes southā€”so what? Iā€™ll get back on track really soon with minimal effort and no regrets.

Interesting short reads

Less Is More - 6 mins read.

I keep hearing about this from different angles. Steve Jobs was famous for saying ā€œnoā€ to great in order to achieve outstanding, and many minimalists practice the same approach. The real challenge is knowing when to say ā€œyesā€ and when to say ā€œnoā€.

Productivity is not about being frantic, busy, or overwhelming. This might be something different. Nice read from our favorite Cal Newport (more about him below).

Einsteinā€™s wisdom continues to resonate today, offering timeless guidance on how to live a thoughtful, purposeful, and compassionate life. It's interesting to see how some famous people are following similar principles.

Add this to your shelf

Attention is the most precious asset for a modern intellectual worker. This book explains and teaches how to ditch distractions and dive deep into focused work. It's like giving your brain a serious workout to achieve better results, faster. I am planning to re-read it this year.

Unpacking the routines of interesting people

Jeff Bezos

Interesting facts:

  • Think big, start small: Bezos is known for his ambitious goals. He often starts with small, achievable steps to reach these grand visions.

  • Day One mentality: Always think like it's day one. This mindset encourages innovation and prevents complacency.

  • Customer-centric approach: Bezos is relentless in focusing on customer needs. This customer obsession drives innovation and product development.

  • Two-pizza rule: Keep teams small enough to be fed by two pizzas. This ensures efficient decision-making and agility.

  • Disagree and commit: Encourage open debate, but once a decision is made, everyone commits fully.

  • Experimentation: Embrace a culture of experimentation and learning from failures.

  • Frugality: Jeff Bezos famously used a door as a desk during the early days of Amazon. The "door desk" became a symbol of Amazon's early days and its focus on cost-efficiency.
