Short Story About How I Wasted $200 on a Gadget I Rarely Use to Improve My Healthy Eating Habits

I hate wasting money.

I hate stuff I donā€™t use or thatā€™s impractical.

Obviously, diamond rings check both boxes here, haha (hoping my wife does not read this passage)

But Iā€™m deviating.

So... I bought a device that was supposed to make my life easier (which it does, in a very unexpected way), and now itā€™s collecting dust.

The story gets worse - Iā€™m not even getting rid of it!

Enough drama.

Iā€™m talking about the Ninja Creami, the "iconic" ice cream machine.

Backstory: Iā€™m an ice cream addict.

I mean, I was.

Or I thought I was.

Anyway, almost every time I went grocery shopping, Iā€™d grab a pint or two of frozen delight.

I knew it was pure sugar with milk, but cā€™mon, we all sin here.

Guilty pleasure and all that.

Very guilty. Not so much pleasure, though, if we calculate the amount of guilt per pleasure.

Until one morning.

I was walking and enjoying my favorite podcast, My First Million. Not sponsored mention, ahahaha.

In that episode, Sahil Bloom was telling a story about how the Ninja Creami changed his life, allowing him to consume healthy, protein-based treats without sugar.

I was hooked.

No sugar + protein = full control of my inputs.

Nice!

Next week, Iā€™m in Costcoā€¦ You guessed it, I bought the Ninja at a good deal.

For the first few months, my wife and I tried everything: froyo, sorbet (mango is the best), ice creams...

Healthy, ā€œconventionalā€ and a mix of both.

It was great, interesting, and... very loud.

My daughter had to pause her Netflix whenever we wanted a treat.

But it didnā€™t matter - this was about health, right? As long as the ears are out of the "health" equation, lol.

Then I noticed we had containers of stuff stocked up in the freezer, and we werenā€™t eating them much. For the past two weeks, weā€™ve had none.

But!

It doesnā€™t matter. Weā€™ve stopped buying the ready-made, sugary ice cream. We just canā€™t justify the purchase anymore.

So, back to the beginning of the story - we have a device we donā€™t use, but it prevents us from eating extra sugar.

Moral of the story? God works in mysterious ways...

We all want to be disciplined, right? Little do we know the flip side. It is interesting how modern parenting, education systems, and societal pressures impose heavy-handed control on children, leading to anxiety and depression.

Junk food is cheap to produce, but it has a huge negative impact on our health. The same is true with junk information on the internet and social media. It can lead to intellectual obesity, hindering our ability to learn, focus, and think critically. What can I say? Control. Your. Inputs!
